A summary of what we are, what we do and why you should come along and join.
WHO?
The UCL Union Anime Society is the anime and manga society for students of UCL. We are funded by the UCL Union for their members (usually, UCL students). Just a group of people interested in anime and manga that like to meet, talk about it, generate more interest and attend events.
WHAT?
Generally, we meet twice a week to show anime to our members throughout term, supplemented by themed showings, and we hold votes so that members can take part in deciding what we watch. Whether you are new to anime or are already a fan, we will be able to show you something new! We maintain a media library which members are welcome to access and borrow items from.
We are a very social society, attending many events outside of showings such as the Japanese Arts Festival and MCM EXPO where we encourage our members to participate any way they want (cosplay etc) and we aim to provide subsidy for paying members of the society to large events. We usually try to organise events based on the current membership, where we’ve arrange events such as gaming sessions, karaoke, quizzes and manga drawing lessons,
WHY?
Well, for members there’s of course the immediate benefit of access to the media library. Our media library is ever-growing, consisting of over 70 titles in total, which members are free to borrow from. You could also let us know what you’d like to have running. Finally, there’s all that annoying legal stuff so that you’re covered by the union when you try to imitate Naruto against the society’s advice while talking to us.
